Carl L. Hadley

July 22, 1946 — November 22, 2019

Carl L. Hadley, 73, died at Rainbow Hospice Facility in Johnson Creek, WI on Friday, November 22, 2019, after a recurrence of acute lymphatic leukemia he had fought against for 3 years and yet had enjoyed a year-long remission from.

Carl was born July 22, 1946 at the Ottumwa Regional Hospital to William and Thelma (Book) Hadley. He proudly attended Linby Polk #7 for grade school was a member of the first Sophomore class to attend Pekin High School graduating in 1964.  He attended and graduated from Barber school in Davenport, IA in 1965 and after came to work in the Sigourney Barbershop full time with Ron Ward.

In 1966 Gordy Goeldner introduced Carl to the love of his life, Sue Utterback and they were married on June 17, 1967 at the Sigourney Methodist Church. He decided soon after that he wanted to change professions and joined his brother Wayne Hadley at the Packwood Lumber Company in Packwood, IA where the 2 of them worked side by side for 40 years until retirement. At Packwood Lumber Carl did outside sales, building and drafting. Also not wanting to completely give up his barbering career, he continued to cut hair part-time at his own barber shop in Packwood 2 nights a week and Saturday mornings for many years until he and Sue moved to live in the country near Linby, Iowa where he then shared space at Barb Hall’s beauty shop. He was also an active member of his community as a proud member of the Packwood Fire Department for over 40 years. Carl was the quiet type of dependable friend.  He deeply loved farming, the rural setting and the people of the Packwood community that he called home until 2018 when he and Sue moved to Johnson Creek, WI to be closer to his daughter Diana and her family so he could watch his grandchildren in their school activities on a more regular basis.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, William & Thelma (Book) Hadley and his son & grandson (Douglas’ son) Douglas and Gabriel Hadley

He is survived by his wife Sue (Utterback) Hadley of Johnson Creek, WI, daughter Diana (Scott) Thomas and their children (Rylie, Dylan & Duncan) of Johnson Creek, WI, daughter-in-law Michelle (Douglas) and her children (Lexie (Seth), Faith, Luke & Blake of Plainfield, IN, brother Wayne (Kay) Hadley of Packwood, IA and their son (Kevin (Christine and son Mitchell) of Irving, TX, 1 great grandchild, nieces, nephews, cousins, many other family members and numerous dear friends.
