Anna Kathryn Krier

Anna Kathryn Krier, 95, died August 21, 2019 at Deer View Manor in Sigourney, Iowa. She was born February 4, 1924, the eighth child, to Constant Peter and Lena Mary Vogel Hammes in South Plank Township in Keokuk County, Iowa.  Kathryn grew up on the east side of what is now 280th Avenue, in a large two story home that her father C. P., built.  She attended Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School at Clear Creek, attending through the 8th Grade.  She worked for other neighborhood families for several years, until she met her future husband on The Harper House dance floor.  A year later, on June 5, 1944 she married Kenneth Henry Krier at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, in Clear Creek Township. They lived and farmed northeast of Ollie, and south of her home place and the town of Harper, along the banks of the South Skunk River.   Kathryn enjoyed playing cards and board games, bird watching, gardening, and especially attending murder mystery evenings with her children.  She and Ken traveled extensively in their motor home and took several world cruises.  After Ken's death, Kathryn moved into assisted living at Deer View Manor in Sigourney in 2011. She was a current member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Altar and Rosary Society.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth on February 22, 2011, three sisters: Clarissa Hammes, Marcella Schneider and Mary Webb; six  brothers: Orville, Eldred, Paul, Charles, Robert and Norbert Hammes, two daughter- in- laws Susan Krier, Beverly Krier and son–in- law Terry Book.
She is survived by her family: Sons - Richard (Beverly - deceased) Krier of Indianola, Jim (Mary K.) of rural Ollie, Larry (Dianne) of Marion, and twins Micheal of rural Ollie and lone daughter Judy (Terry - deceased) Book of rural Packwood.
Grandchildren:   T.R. (Timothy Richard) and Brian Krier; Patrick (Katharine) Krier and Genevieve (Adam) Harnack; Laura (Rob) Effie,  Stephanie (Brandon) Hawk, Marcus Stephenson and Charles Roth; Chelsi (Jaris) Book, Matt (Amber)Book and Tyler (Kaitlin) Book
Great-grandchildren:  Jaelyn, Jalisa, Brianna, Jamee, Jena, Cole, Elizabeth, William, Berkley and Cooper.
