Wilma Moore

Wilma Moore 93, of Delta, died Wednesday January 4, 2012, at U of I Hospitals in Iowa City. She was born July 28, 1918 near Hedrick to Cloyd C. and Mary Etta Morrow Mateer. She graduated from What Cheer High School in 1936. She worked for Robinson Motor in What Cheer and the Ford Garage in Fairfield. On August 2, 1941 she married George W. Strong. They lived in rural Delta where she continued to work for Robinson Motor and later for Gatewood Motor. George died on January 5, 1958. On May 3, 1959 she married Garold LeRoy Moore at the Little Brown on Nashua. He died November 1, 2004.
She was a member and treasurer of the Delta Christian Church, treasurer of the Springfield Cemetery, was involved with the Keokuk County Fair, Delta Ruritans, Delta Town and Country, Delta Garden Club, Delta American Legion Auxiliary, the What Cheer and Sigourney Saddle Clubs, and served as Floral Superintendent at the Keokuk County Fair. She had lived on the farm all of her life until residing at the Keokuk County Health Center the last 6 months.
Surviving are a daughter Dixie Lee Shipley, 2 sons Roger and wife Kim Strong and Greg and wife Kim Moore all of Delta, step-daughter Carol Benson, step-son-in-law Donnie Pence both of Sigourney, 4 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 17 step-great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild, 6 step-great-great-grandchildren, and a sister Bette and husband Ernest Dilley of Oskaloosa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, step-daughter Ardith Pence, son-in-law Tobe Shipley, step-son-in-law Dean Benson, step-great-grandson Wade Benson, brother Gerald Mateer, sister Inez Moore Fielder, and nephew Bobby Moore.

Funeral Service: Monday 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Delta Christian Church.

Visitation: Sunday 4:00-7:00 p.m.

Burial: Springfield Cemetery, Delta, Iowa
