Toby Jaeger

Tobias Jacob Jaeger, 89, died November 13, 2017, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. He was born November 16, 1927 to Frank and Esther Jaeger in Keota. He first attended a country school near South English, then attended Webster school. After High School he worked as an electrician's helper for Roy White. When he was 23 he was drafted into the Army and sent to Korea during the Korean war from 1950-1952. He worked as a communication lineman in the Signal Corps. After the Army, he went to Bradley University to study Horology, then went into the jewelry business. He married Mary Ellen Saxton in 1955, and had two children, Mike and Larry. Mary Ellen died in 1966. He later married Agnes Peiffer in 1969 until she passed in 2009. In 1960 he opened his jewelry store on the Sigourney square, and stayed in business until 1985. He was a member of the Lions Club in Sigourney, and was a member of the Catholic Church in Sigourney. He then moved to Prescott Valley, Arizona where he had a house built, and lived there for 15 years. During his stay in Arizona he volunteered for the DAV at the Veteran's Home in Prescott. Then he and Agnes entered into the Veteran's home in Quincy, Illinois, before his last destination to the Iowa Veteran's home in Marshalltown. He liked listening to old music, western movies, and reading Western novels, mainly Zane Grey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Mary Ellen, his second wife Agnes, and 5 sisters.

He is survived by sons Mike Jaeger and Larry Jaeger of Grimes; grandchildren Laura Jaeger of Essex and Allen Jaeger of Osceola, and a sister Ruth Hoffman of Rockford, IL.

Funeral service will be Friday November 17, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at the Holm Funeral Home. Visitation will be 1 hour before the service 12:00 -1:00 P.M.
