Steve Stull

Stephen Samuel “Steve” Stull, age 72 of Sigourney passed away September 15, 2025 at the Manor House Care Center in Sigourney following a long fought battle with Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia. His family was by his side.

 Steve was born August 25, 1953 in Oskaloosa, IA to Samuel and Janella (Slings) Stull. Steve was a 1971 graduate of Sigourney High School. On September 18, 1971 Steve was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Gwenlyn “Gwen” Conner. Together they had two children Joshua and Cassidy. Throughout his life Steve worked for Conner Brothers construction, Crane Valve Company in Washington and he spent the last 30+ years at Oskaloosa Engineering and Manufacturing where he retired from at the end 2017. 

Steve’s favorite pastimes were spending time with his grandkids, playing cards with "the guys", hunting (deer and mushrooms), fishing, watching Hawkeye football and enjoying a cold beer. Steve truly enjoyed reading books and during his best years never passed up the opportunity to read the newest Stephen King novel (oftentimes in one day). Steve loved music and he and Gwen even took line dance lessons. 

Steve was always there to lend a hand to others. He spent many years helping friends and family on home improvement projects or helping with anything that was asked of him. 

Steve is survived by his wife Gwen, daughter Cassidy Mitchell (Dustin Bensmiller) all of Sigourney. Grandchildren Lexi Schroeder, Owen, Darby and Gram Mitchell, Hayden Bensmiller, Chandler Stull and Ethan Cooksey. Sister Karen (Dick) Wichmann of Williamsburg, sister Sharon (Dave) Souer of Ottumwa, brother Stewart Stull of Sigourney. Sisters and brothers in-law Diana and Buck Garringer, Dottie and Rick Dobbins, Michele and Bobbie Vermillion all of Sigourney. Along with many nieces, nephews and close friends. 

Steve is preceded in death by his parents Sam and Janella, son Josh, granddaughter Bethanne Cooksey, in-laws Sam and Bertha Conner, sisters in-law Virginia Baker and Sandra Conner, brother in-law Gerald Conner and many close friends.

Celebration of life Sunday October 26, 2025 1:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. Sigourney Golf and Country Club.
