Rosella Rita Johnston, 85, of Sigourney, formerly of Burlington, died Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at the Manor House in Sigourney. She was born February 15, 1927 in Sperry, Iowa, to Leonard and Mary Haugh Beckman. She attended Zion country school and graduated from Sperry High School in 1945. She received her normal training at Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls. On May 29, 1948 she married Wayne Johnston in Dodgeville. She taught school at South Jackson and Zion rural schools, and at Huron, and Sperry. Later she served as a postal clerk and was Post Master in Harper and Sperry. They owned and operated Johnston Truck Stop in Mediapolis. Rosella was a jack of all trades and made a super apple cream pie. She was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church in Dodgeville.
She is survived by her children Terry (Charlene) Johnston of Burlington, Trudy (Mike) Welter of Sigourney, Tim Johnston of Mediapolis, Tony Johnston of Danville, 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, two sister in laws Wanda George and Romona Beckman, two brother in laws Robert Harper and Hugh Fleming.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wayne on August 23, 1995, 4 sisters Virginia Harper, Sister Katherine Beckman BVM, Phyllis Brueck, Mary Fleming, 2 brothers James and Charles Beckman.

Funeral Mass- 1:00 p.m. Monday February 27, 2012 at the St Mary's Catholic Church in Dodgeville, where there will be visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time Monday
Burial- Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa

Visitation after 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the Holm Funeral Home in Sigourney, where a Prayer Service will begin at 4:00 p.m. visitation to follow with the family present until 7:00 p.m.
