Ronald William Meyer, 78, of Sigourney, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 25, 2026, at The Manor House in Sigourney, following a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Ron was born on February 9, 1948, in Sigourney, Iowa, the son of Frederick and Elizabeth (Hammes) Meyer. After losing his father at a young age, Ron developed a strong work ethic early in life and remained deeply connected to his family and agricultural roots throughout his life.
Ron spent his entire career working in agriculture, an industry he deeply loved. During the 1980s, he owned and operated Goose Creek Soil Service before continuing his work with several agricultural businesses in and around Ainsworth, Iowa. He later spent many years working for Farmers Implement, a John Deere dealership in Washington, Iowa, where he especially enjoyed working with area farmers and valued his time working for Carl Wulf.
Ron also loved spending time working on his mother’s family farm, a place that remained deeply meaningful to him throughout his life.
Outside of work, Ron enjoyed playing cards and became especially fond of participating in pitch tournaments during his later years. He appreciated the friendships, competition, and camaraderie that came along with the game. Ron also had a strong sense of humor, and those who knew him will remember his habit of introducing himself to strangers as “Henry Oglvy Devanclatson” (“Dee-van-clatson”).
Ron is survived by his children, Scott (Molly) Meyer and Kellie Meyer; granddaughter, Marissa Meyer; brothers, Dan (Danette) Meyer and Ed (Denise) Conrad; sisters, Fran (Merrell) Vannier, Jean (Denny) Duncan, and Rita (Jerry) Sheetz; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Elizabeth Meyer; sister, Patricia Reidel; brother, Frederick “Corky” Meyer; son-in-law, Sean Marvin; as well as two nieces and a nephew, Tasha, Stephanie and Ryan Meyer; and other beloved family members.
