Rodger Dean Aller, 80, of Sigourney, Iowa, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, IA.
Born on April 19, 1945, in Sigourney, Iowa, Rodger was the son of Dale and Elpha Aller. He graduated from Sigourney High School in 1963 and later attended drafting school in Denver, Colorado. Rodger married the love of his life, Sharon Kathleen Snakenberg, on the morning of September 18, 1965, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sigourney. Later that same afternoon, he enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard.
Rodger’s professional life was marked by his diverse skills and unwavering work ethic. After his service, he combined his passion for woodworking and construction to start Aller Construction, later opening Home and Farm Building Center, where Sharon worked by his side. In 1982, Rodger made a career change, beginning a 31-year tenure with the University of Iowa Athletic Department. He found joy in mentoring young adults and imparting life skills, building meaningful connections along the way.
Rodger’s legacy is woven through the many homes he built in Keokuk County, his work on Carver-Hawkeye Arena and Kinnick Stadium, and the lasting impact he made on his family. He was a true “MacGyver” able to fix just about anything and always showing others that there’s a solution to every problem.
Rodger's humor and kindness will never be forgotten. His daughters remember his playful promises such as offering anything they wanted on the “second Tuesday of next week” and his quirky warnings about foods that might cause "hair on your chest" or make your hair "curly." He had an open heart and was always ready to help others, particularly when it involved a trip to Menards.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard Aller.
Rodger's greatest pride was his family, and his enduring love for them remains his most cherished legacy. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Sharon; daughters Kimberly (Mike) Louden, Cedar Rapids, IA and Teri (Bob) Dillon, Abilene, TX; grandchildren; Zachery and Meghan Smith, Cedar Rapids, Katie (Lake Bay, WA) and Keaton Dillon, Abilene, TX , sister Phyllis (Ron) Hoffman of Sigourney, and many extended family members and friends.
Rodger will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the countless lives he touched
