Marlene Meyer

Charlotte Marlene Meyer, 86, died July 14th, 2026 at her home. She was born June 5, 1940 in Sigourney, Iowa to Goldie Claudine and Horace LeRoy Course of Sigourney. She graduated from Sigourney High School in 1958. After graduation, Marlene and friends moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. At the time, they all wanted to be airline stewards, but Marlene was offered a job as a receptionist for a telephone company shortly after moving and took it. During her time at the telephone company, she met Frank Kahler, whom she later married and welcomed 2 children. After spending some time as a stay-at-home mom, she later went on to work at Dayton’s warehouse, which is now known as Macy’s Department Store. Right before her days working at Dayton’s, she met David W. Meyer. Marlene and David married on January 26th, 1973 and merged their two families. Marlene spent many years driving back and forth between Blaine, Minnesota and Sigourney, Iowa to see her family. She eventually decided to make the move back to Sigourney to be closer to all of them.

Marlene lived a full life. She was full of grace and style and was also quiet and humble. Marlene enjoyed shopping trips with her friends and family, antiquing, taking care of her flowers, holiday season trips back to Minneapolis to visit her friends, supplying all her favorite people with their favorite treats (cashews, jellybeans, oreos, peeps) and finding dessert anywhere she went. Her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her grandchildren and most recently, her 3 great granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, David W. Meyer.

Marlene is survived by her children, Kathy (Larry) Utterback of Sigourney and Giff Kahler of Sigourney; stepchildren Ken Meyer, Tim Meyer, Tom Meyer and Mike Meyer; her grandchildren, Eryn (Mac) O’Rourke and Andrew (Allie) Utterback and great granddaughters, Sloane, Arlowe and Adelaine. She is also survived by her brother Larry (Linda) Crouse and many friends.

Marlene’s quiet love and grace will continue to live on through those who were blessed to know her, especially those who know her as Grammy or Gigi. Her life was a blessing and she will be deeply missed by all who love her.
