Lyle "Rip" Winn

March 2, 1929 — January 23, 2019

Lyle Raymond “Rip” Winn, 89, died January 23, 2019 at the University Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.  He was born March 2, 1929 to James Afton and Zola Irene Woody Winn on the family farm near Taintor in northern Mahaska County. Rips father purchased a farm in Keokuk County, they moved to it when Rip was 4 years old. Rip was baptized at the Ollie Baptist Church and he graduated from Ollie High School.  On November 7, 1948 he married Geneva M. Stein in Sigourney.  In 1951 he joined the Navy and was discharged in 1955. When Rip returned from the service he worked for the county, farmed and at Kingsberry Homes. Then he started a tiling business and retired in 1998. Rip enjoyed wintering in Arizona with friends, golfing, fishing and dancing with Geneva. He was a member of the Sigourney American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Merlin, Norman, and Roger Winn and one sister Helen Blake.
He is survived by his wife Geneva of Sigourney, children Jeff (Amy) Winn of Richland, Melissa Strempke of Independence, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials are to The University of Iowa Children's Hospital.
