Jimmy Seever

Jimmy LeRoy Seevers found eternal peace with his Lord at age 85, on March 14, 2008. His passing was witnessed by God at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at the Holm Funeral Home in Sigourney. Burial will be at Rock Creek Cemetery near Ollie, Iowa. Friends may celebrate Jimmy's life with the family Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jimmy was born November 22, 1922 to David Leslie and Helen Marie Day Seevers, in the home of Doc Schreiner of Ollie. After graduation from Ollie High School, he served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy as a pharmacist mate during WWII. While serving in the Pacific Theater, Jimmy was awarded 2 bronze stars and a Victory Ribbon during the Philippine Liberation, aboard the USS Oglala.

After returning from the war Jimmy married the love of his life, Velda Van Orsdall at the Little Brown Church on November 16, 1946. The couple built their lives together on Tick Ridge farmland west of Ollie. When Jimmy retired from farming in 1987, he then went to work for the Keokuk County Conservation Board. During his tenure Jimmy initiated Belva-Deer Park development. With his hard work and dedication, Jimmy helped to turn a run-down farm area into a park, which today rivals any County Park in the state.

Among Jimmy's other contributions, he provided leadership to the Kiwanis, Isacac Walton League, Keokuk County Historical Society, and the American Legion. Jimmy's strong relationship with God was witnessed through his membership with the Sigourney United Methodist Church.

Jimmy is survived by his constant companion and wife Velda of Sigourney. They have two children, Diane and husband Leonard Bird, of Marengo, IA; Eddy and wife Jill Seevers of Kansas City, MO, two grandchildren Trisha and Derek Seevers, two great-grandchildren Adin and Benjamin, a sister Lena and husband Leland Reiner of Bettendorf, IA; and a brother Dean Seevers of Loveland, Colorado.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be given to Belva-Deer Park as a lasting remembrance of Jimmy's contributions.
