Gladys Maxine (Fry Hubbs) Carriker, 84 died June 30, 2016 at the Care Center in Sigourney. She was born April 24, 1932 to Harold L. and Jenny Florence Meaker Fry in Keokuk County, Iowa. She graduated from Sigourney High School in 1949 and attended Vennard College in Oskaloosa. Gladys married Harold I. Hubbs, they later divorced. She was employed at Harmon's Flowers, West Side Café and operated Hubbs Upholstery in Sigourney. After her divorce she worked at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids and later she worked at Delta Grocery in Delta. She married Lester V. Carriker and became a loving step mother to 18 young adults. She enjoyed having family gatherings and celebrating birthdays on a monthly bases. Gladys enjoyed growing flowers, crocheting, reading, and quilting. She was always willing to give her creations as a gift for any occasion. She was a member of the Sigourney First Baptist Church since childhood.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Polly May Hubbs and infant son Lorenzo Hubbs, two sisters Joanna P. Blaylock and Velma M. Lippard, two brothers James L. Fry and Ralph E. Fry.

She is survived by her children Wayne L. Hubbs of Soap Lake, Washington and F. Kay Hubbs of Peoria, Illinois. Gladys became a foster mother of Mary Crouse of Ottumwa and Elizabeth LeAnn Crouse of Ottumwa, grandchildren Tresa Y. Clemmens Ryun of Allerton, Iowa, Mark A. Crouse of Sigourney, Amber Crouse of Ottumwa, SkyLynn Crouse Lanman of Hedrick, and great-grandmother to Keziah Ryun and Obediah Ryun of Allerton, Rylie Crouse of Sigourney, Jackson Lanman of Hedrick. She was like a grandmother to many who did not have one. She always told everyone to "take care".

Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, July 7, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Sigourney
Burial: Pleasant Hill Cemetery
Visitation: Wednesday 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. Holm Funeral Home
