Gerald D. Spicer, 84, of Hayesville, died January 2, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born September 8, 1926 near Hayesville to Charles and Jennie Beasley Spicer. He attended school in Keokuk County. Gerald served in the United States Army during World War II. On July 15, 1944, he married Cleda Leone Decker in Sigourney. She died December 1, 1982. Since 1986, he has shared his home with Helen Pence Kleinschmidt. He farmed near Hayesville and worked as a maintenance man for the Keokuk County Hospital until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his 1st wife Cleda, his parents, and 2 daughters Julie Spicer, and Sheila Clubb, 2 granddaughters Kristy Blizzard, Susan Carnahan, and his brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife Helen Kleinschmidt, daughters Dixie Neff of Ottumwa, and Cheryl and her husband Neil Carpenter of Hayesville, 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral service:10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Holm Funeral Home
Burial: Pennington Cemetery
Visitation: Tuesday 5 to 8 p.m.
