Everett James

June 16, 1919 — August 11, 1940


Everett Leroy James was born June 16, 1919 near Thornburg, Iowa to Ira and Jennie Garrett James. He was educated at the Thornburg School. On August 11, 1940, he married Leola Newcomb in Lancaster, Mo. They worked on the farms of George and Anna Beatty and Dr. John Maxwell. They rented several farms, including W.A. Milburn's farm south of Keswick, before buying their own farm in 1965 near Harper, Iowa. They remained on that farm until moving into Sigourney in 2000. He served on the board of directors for REA/REC for many years. He and Leola enjoyed camping with a group called the Three River Rovers and playing ten point pitch in a card party club for many years. They also enjoyed spending winters camping in the south, especially Arizona where many of Everett's family stayed also. He was baptized and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sigourney.
Survivors include 2 sons: Leroy (Linda) James of Sigourney and Donald (Cindy) James of Marengo: 4 grandchildren, Robert (Julie) James of Cedar Rapids, Terri (Gerald) Glandon of Webster, Johnnie (Kristi) James of Iowa City and Jennie (Nathen) Von Lienen of Marengo. Great grandchildren: Thomas, Jacob and Megan Glandon; Keira and Malorie James and Emma and Aubry Von Lienen. Two sisters: Wilma Snakenberg of Washington and Viola (Kenneth) Scherer of Agency and a sister-in-law Dolores Newcomb of What Cheer and many nieces and nephews.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 65 years, 2 brothers: Gerald and Raymond, and 5 sisters; Eva Lawrence, Olive Reynolds Nichols, Gladys Benson, Opal Huffman and Agnes Dutemple

Visitation 4:00-7:00 P.M. Tuesday
