Dwaine Leroy Lucas, 76, of Keswick, died Friday, August 29, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. He was born January 27, 1932 in Sigourney to Phillip and Dorothy Hardlein Lucas. He attended Sigourney High School. From 1951 to 1953, he served in United States Army stationed in Korea. On March 8, 1952, he married Althea Koch in Lancaster, Mo. He worked at Century Motors, the Veteran's Hospital in Knoxville, and then moved to California. They returned to Iowa where he worked at Kingsbury Homes and later retired from working at the University of Iowa in 1982. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veteran, the James Murphy Post #319 American Legion in Keswick, and the Bethel Baptist Church in Oskaloosa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Justin Lucas, a granddaughter Sybrina Lucas, and two brothers Phillip and Raymond Lucas.
He is survived by his wife Althea, two sons Richard and wife Susan Lucas of North English, Mike and wife Sharon Lucas of Cedar Rapids, a daughter Deb and husband Dennis Martin of Keswick, 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers Jim Stout of Sigourney, Jim Lucas of Ilgin, Ore. Lyle Lucas of San Diego, Calf., a sister Jeannette Marshal, of Curtin, Ore, and step- mother Opal Lucas of La Grand, Ore.
Funeral Service 1:00 p.m. Tuesday September 2, 2008, at the Bethel Baptist Church in Oskaloosa. Rev. Bruce Thompson officiating. Burial McFarland Cemetery near What Cheer. Visitation 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Holm Funeral Home.
