Delores (Dee) Maxine Barnhart, 87, died April 10, 2026 at the Monticello Nursing Rehab Campus in Monticello, Iowa surrounded by her family. She was born December 3, 1938 to Lyle and Nellie (Strubel) Strasser. She had 4 other siblings Leroy, Laverne, Larry, and Donna.
During her lifetime she enjoyed playing basketball at Tri-County Schools. She was talented in playing the accordion for hayrides and such. On October 6, 1956, Dee married Don Barnhart in Keswick. They welcomed four children into the world: Debbie, Vickie, Connie and Bryan.
Dee worked as a K-Mart greeter and worked in the medical field for several years. After retirement she enjoyed traveling to Branson, Missouri with her husband, and any family that could come along. On one occasion in Branson, grandchildren coaxed her into riding a water ride at Silver Dollar City where her paper purse disintegrated as she went under a waterfall making everyone laugh as she was ringing out her purse and collecting all of her belongings on the ground. She enjoyed garage sales, shopping at Walmart, and loved to dance.
She enjoyed collecting beanie babies,Princess Diana memorabilia, and being around family. She was famous to family for her homemade noodles, her Chocolate No Bake cookies, silly Christmas white elephant gifts, sleepovers spent spoiling grandkids, and her love of birds. Dee enjoyed her last years spent with Cedar Rapids area family she otherwise was unable to see as often as she would like.
She was preceded into death by her husband, Don Barnhart, parents, Lyle and Nellie Strasser, brother Leroy Strasser.
She will forever be remembered by her children Debbie Frazier of Des Moines, Vickie (Tom) Webb of Sigourney, Connie (Mark) Flanegin of Sigourney, son Bryan (Kris) Barnhart of Monticello, 13 grandchildren Tammy Klett, Chad Klett, Jesse Frazier, Tyler Frazier, Aaron Frazier, Michele Sieren, Eric Webb, Ashley Rash, Racheal Ohrt, William Flanegin, Kolton Krob, Alex Fear and Gabi Barnhart. 23 great-grandchildren, 2 great- great grandchildren. One sister Donna Sanner of Chariton, two brothers LaVerne (Kathy) Strasser of Hamlin, Larry (Joann) Strasser of South English.
Visitation: Tuesday, April 14, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Holm Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: Wednesday, April 15, 2026 10:30 a.m. at the Holm Funeral Home.
Burial: Garrett Cemetery near Delta.
