Dan W. Lucas, 88, died Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at the McCreedy Home in Washington, Iowa. He was born in his parents home in Sigourney, Iowa on August 20, 1924. He was the son of Fredrick Ellsworth and Fern Ann Iosbaker Lucas. He attended Sigourney High School. Dan served in the United States Marines in the South Pacific during World War II. On December 26, 1951 he married Ruth Elsie Mathes in Montezuma. They farmed south of Sigourney for many years. In 1972 he began working at Perfex, later Modine, in Washington, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Webb Lodge #182 A.F. and A.M. and Sigourney V.F.W. for over 60 years and was a long standing Democrat in Keokuk County.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ruth on October 5, 2003; two sisters, Julia Bailey and Martha Wendell; two brothers, Ned Lucas and Phil Lucas; granddaughter, Katherine Hope Marie Lucas and a daughter-in-law, Anne Marie Lucas.
He is survived by four sons: Dan (Polly) Lucas of Sigourney, Fred (Kris) Lucas of Iowa City, Tom (Julie) Lucas of Sigourney, Marty (Kathy) Lucas of Des Moines, a daughter, Julia Lucas of Des Moines; 20 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Funeral services: Saturday, October 27 at 2 p.m. at Holm Funeral Home
Burial: Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Sigourney
Visitation: Friday, October 26, 5-7 p.m.
