Cletus Hammes

Cletus Michael Hammes, 80, died March 1, 2014 at the Manor House in Sigourney Iowa. He was born on December 15, 1933 near Clear Creek to Michael and Cecilia Striegel Hammes. He spent his childhood on the family farm south of Harper, Iowa and attended school at Ss. Peter and Paul School in Clear Creek. He served in the United States Army. On November 25, 1961 he married Beverly Rae Glandon at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney. He was employed at Amana Refrigeration and farmed all of his life in the Sigourney area. Cletus loved to play cards and go mushroom hunting in the spring. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus of Harper.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son William Hammes, five sisters Leola Heisdorffer, Agatha Conrad, Dolores Baker, Eveleen Ulin, Beatrice Clubb, four brothers Lawrence "Bud" Hammes, Edwin Hammes, Marvin Hammes and Kenneth Hammes.
He is survived by his wife Beverly, one daughter Christine (Keith) Garling of Iowa City; one son Jeff Hammes of Sigourney; three grandchildren Austin Hammes, Shellby Hammes and McKinzie Hammes. two sisters Elizabeth Conrad and Donna Paarman both of Sigourney.

Funeral Service: Tuesday March 4, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. St. Mary Catholic Church Sigourney
Prayer Service: Monday 4:00 with a Knights of Columbus Rosary to follow at 4:30 at St. Mary Church.

Visitation: 5:00 - 7:00 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Sigourney.
