Marie (Mrs. James) Snakenberg, 85, of Sigourney, died April 15th
at Keokuk County Health Center. She was born on February 24, 1926,
near Clear Creek Township, Keokuk County, Iowa, to John C. and Clara
(Buch) Weber. She received her education at Ss. Peter and Paul
Catholic School in Clear Creek. In 1940 the Weber family moved to
Webster where Marie lived until February 11, 1947, when she married
Jim Snakenberg at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Keswick.
Together they farmed and raised their children on a farm east of
Sigourney. After Jim passed away in January 26, 1978, Marie
continued living on the farm until entering the Manor House Care
Center. She enjoyed country living, cooking, traveling to dances
and bingo games, and especially celebrating life with her family.
Her family includes four sons: Ron Snakenberg of Harper, Gary (Marie)
Snakenberg, Don (Nancy) Snakenberg and Pat (Cindy) Snakenberg of
Sigourney; two daughters, Mary Sue Votroubek and Kathy (Ed) Wheeldon
of Sigourney; fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren;
two brothers, Richard Weber and Alvin Weber of Sigourney; and four
sisters, Lorena Bair of Keswick, Geraldine Cavin of Sigourney; Carol
Weber and Connie Strabala of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one infant
grandson.
Funeral Mass: Tuesday 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary
Catholic Church, Sigourney
Burial: Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Sigourney
Visitation: Monday 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. with a Prayer Service at 5:00
P.M. Holm Funeral Home
